“Tears” is a symphonic metal ballad by Japanese rock band X Japan, released as their ninth single on November 10, 1993. Composed by drummer Yoshiki, the song reflects his grief over his father’s suicide when Yoshiki was 10.
Initially credited to the alias “Hitomi Shiratori” to mitigate fan expectations of the band’s typical heavy style, “Tears” became a commercial success, reaching number 2 on the Oricon charts and achieving double platinum status by July 1996.
